Tilman Makatsch is Head of Competition Litigation & Antitrust Economics at Deutsche Bahn, an inter-disciplinary/international team consisting of antitrust lawyers, litigators, competition economists and data scientists. Under his leadership, Deutsche Bahn has become a successful pioneer in the private enforcement of antitrust claims as well as cartel detection and screening. Prominent cases include the rail track, air freight, trucks, escalators/elevators, carbon brushes, beer and coffee cartels as well as interchange fees.
Before joining Deutsche Bahn in 2008, Tilman worked as a senior manager in the regulatory management of Deutsche Telekom. Previously, he worked as an attorney. Tilman studied in Frankfurt and Leicester (UK) and completed his legal clerkship, inter alia, in Brussels and Cape Town. He regularly publishes on competition litigation topics.
