Liz Fitzsimons is a Partner with Eversheds Sutherland who specialises in data protection, GDPR, and e-privacy, and information law, particularly in relation to new developments, complex strategic problems, international issues and transfers. Liz has a great deal of experience with multi party and multi country compliance issues and programmes and works with a specialist team on such projects, including assisting clients with audits, transfer and compliance programmes and development of supporting documents. Her team works with many leading technology, life sciences and industrial clients and helps them with privacy assessments and advice in respect of the development and adoption of new products and services, designs, technologies, and systems and services to improve their compliance, mitigate risks and support investment decisions. Work includes assistance in relation to smart devices, monitoring and use of location and other data, including through big data analysis, predictions and data exploitation. She has deep experience in respect of transparency requirements and public access to data, especially through public body disclosures.

Liz has also worked closely with clients on key data sharing and shared service arrangements, in relation to mergers and acquisitions, and on critical data privacy issues when outsourcing. Her work includes helping clients with data governance, DPO advice and audit and gap analysis. She has worked with clients on privacy issues in respect of litigation, whistleblowing and hotlines, centralization of IT/HR (HRIS) systems, data warehousing and shared service functions. She also helps clients with advice on customer relationship management systems (CRM) and marketing initiatives. She frequently assists clients to deal with subject access requests and has a strong track record in minimising the impact of complaints to the regulator. Liz in addition assists clients with advice on cyber security and other breaches, helping with breach reporting and defending clients against ICO investigations and enforcement action, including fines, as well as from individual claims. She also specialises in freedom of information and related laws. Liz is a regular speaker at conferences and events. She is recommended in Chambers and Partners Best of UK category for Data Protection and by Legal 500.
