Walter van OverbeekAdvocaat at Houthoff Buruma
Walter van Overbeek advises and litigates on matters related to manufacturing and distribution, and is called upon by manufacturers and importers to assist with disputes with retailers. During 2012 to 2015, he was Managing Partner of Houthoff Buruma. Walter also heads the firm's Automotive Industry Group and primarily acts for manufacturers and importers of consumer goods. He has successfully guided several restructurings of distribution networks. For a Korean car manufacturer, he developed a tailor-made and unique distribution system, which has been subjected to a ruling that changed the case law. Walter regularly acts against non-authorized internet dealers of products; such as cars, bikes, cameras, and cosmetics within the EU through selective distribution systems in the market. He represented Alfa Romeo in the case in which the Dutch Supreme Court in early 2010 had an important ruling in favour of the members of the distribution. He is a guest lecturer at the 'Zuidas Master' at the VU University Amsterdam and also the author of the book "Contacts and Contracts" and various articles. Walter studied law at Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht (cum laude) and Hull, United Kingdom (with distinction). He worked five years in Brussels in European competition law. As an arbitrator, he occasionally mediates in the distribution rights in the Dutch Arbitration Institute.
