Profile

Timothy Mayer is a Senior Investment Manager in LCM’s London office.

Tim is one of the most experienced disputes finance practitioners in the London market, having entered the profession in 2008. During his career he has managed investments in excess of US$180m. He is responsible for origination, negotiation and structuring of funding opportunities and the subsequent management of investment projects in the EMEA region. He is a member of LCM’s Investment Committees for both APAC and EMEA regions.

He has a particular expertise in international arbitration (commercial and treaty), having managed investments conducted under the rules of all the major arbitral institutions. Notable authorities include Kardassopoulos & Fuchs vs The Republic of Georgia and Boonyanit vs. Republic of Malaysia. He regularly works on heavy commercial disputes in the High Court in London, including those within an insolvency setting. He has considerable expertise in group claims, including the Competition Appeal Tribunal, and has funded several commercial disputes and group claims in European jurisdictions.

As an industry expert, he previously served as a director of the Association of Litigation Funders of England and Wales and was a member of the Third-Party Funding Working Party that drafted the Code of Conduct for Litigation Funders following the Jackson Review of Civil Litigation Costs in 2009. He was a member of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (Queen Mary) Task Force on Third Party Funding in International Arbitration (2014 – 2018) and the International Litigation Finance Association Working Group responding to the UNCITRAL WG III Third-party Funding Reform Proposals (2021). He is a regular speaker on the funding circuit, both nationally and internationally and has written extensively on disputes financing, including co-authoring ‘Practical Insights on Third-Party Funding in Arbitration’ (Kluwer Arbitration, 2020).

Tim has been recognised as one of the Top 10 Most Influential Litigation Funding Layers in the UK for 2023 and he is being consistently recognised as a litigation funding industry expert by several directories, including Law Dragon, Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal.
